The Two Phases of Rough-In
Underground rough-in. Happens before the concrete slab is poured. Drain and waste lines placed in their final positions under the building footprint. Errors here are extremely expensive to fix. A mispositioned toilet stub-out under a poured slab requires jackhammering the slab.
Above-grade rough-in. Happens after framing but before drywall. Supply lines and drain stacks installed through the structure. Each fixture location gets supply stub-outs and a drain connection. This is the phase that gets the city building inspection.
What Rough-In Includes
Supply rough-in. Hot and cold water lines from the main service entry to each fixture. PEX is standard in NWA residential construction today. The Inspection Step
After above-grade rough-in is complete but before drywall is hung, the city building inspector visits. The inspection confirms all rough-in work meets the Arkansas Plumbing Code. If the inspection passes, walls can close.
Why Rough-In Quality Matters Long Term
